| My "official" training in the art and business of photography really stemmed out of curiosity, a physics education, and relatives needing a favor. Allow me to explain.
During college I had a passive interest in taking a shot here and there. I soon found that my curiosity (and the fact that I was living and breathing physics) led me to start taking notes and experimenting with the variables of photography - exposure, aperture, shutter speed, perspective, depth of field, compression, reciprocity, etc. So, I started to get it, but didn't really have any outlet but to take an interesting picture here and there (and to spend money I shouldn't be spending). Then a relative asked if I shot weddings. Hmmm, I supposed there couldn't be all that much to it ... sure! That worked, and she told two friends, and they told two friends, and ... you get the picture (so to speak). The next step led me in the direction of opening a photo lab, developing a more official photography business, and going full time, putting my hard-earned physics education to good use ... to my parents chagrin. (It's ok, they still love me). |
