| I've been involved with music in varying capacities for most of my life. My earliest memories were of building little drum sets out of coffee cans given to me by my mother. My big thrill was obtaining a giant, empty soap keg with a metal top. Pounding on that really got my blood flowing. Of course, it got everyone else's flowing too. So much for that. I guess a snare drum made the most sense after that, because at least there was an obvious purpose to all that pounding. A couple of parades followed, and that was about it until one day during a vagrant moment in the high school music room, I asked a friend to show me a rhythm on the drum set. From then on it was my passion.
I went on to make myself proficient enough to get into a band and play in my high school during my junior year. Oh, the stories ... By the time I had graduated I was working full time in a band. The guitar, music theory, and formal training came in the years that followed. Currently I play drums in a 60's, 70's, and 80's cover band called Secret Service, and guitar in a duo called Red-headed Stepchild. |
